Jeld-Wen Window Replacement: The Wellington Owner’s Guide

Jeld-Wen window replacement in Wellington typically runs $450 to $1,150 per window installed, depending on glass package, frame condition, and whether it’s a single sash or full-unit swap. Most replacements we handle are completed in one visit, and we keep common Jeld-Wen hardware and weatherstripping on the truck. The way most Wellington homeowners discover a part has failed is simple: the window won’t stay open, won’t seal, or won’t lock, and the fix that worked five years ago no longer does.

Jeld-Wen built windows under several different lines over the years, so the first question is always which one you have. The label helps. Older Wellington homes commonly have Jeld-Wen’s Builder Series or the Siteline wood-clad line, while newer construction leans toward the Premium Vinyl and Auraline series. If the label’s faded or painted over, we measure the sash thickness and glass unit depth. That gets us to the right replaceable part without guessing.

Which Jeld-Wen Models This Applies To

Jeld-Wen’s naming changed more than once, and a 2003 Builder Series window shares almost nothing with a 2018 Premium Vinyl. Here’s what we see in Wellington:

  • Builder / Wen-Living Series – basic vinyl, still common in Wellington subdivisions built during the early 2000s. Balance replacement is straightforward, but the sash profiles were discontinued, so hardware is increasingly aftermarket-sourced.
  • Siteline Wood-Clad – the higher-end line with mortise-and-tenon joints. Owners value the look, but Wellington humidity works on wood frames. Rot at the bottom rail is the most common replacement trigger.
  • Premium Vinyl (Wen-PV) – current-generation vinyl with a slimmer frame. Seals and balances are the usual failing parts, and OEM replacements are still available for most production dates.
  • Aline / Auraline Aluminum – more common in condos and mid-century homes. The glass unit is typically the replaceable, not the frame.

A note on OEM versus aftermarket: for Jeld-Wen specifically, OEM balances and constant-force coils are still the right call on newer units, because the mounting slots are specific to the series. The weakness in coastal Florida is usually the weatherstripping and the corner seals at the sash, not the frame. Aftermarket parts work fine for many Builder Series balances and locks, but if the glazing bead profile is Jeld-Wen’s proprietary shape, using an aftermarket bead means the seal won’t sit flush and you’ll buy the same window twice in five years.

TruePane is an independent installer and service provider. We are not a Jeld-Wen dealership, and we’re not obligated to push their parts catalog. That matters when an aftermarket balance carries a better lifespan than the OEM part did the first time, and it matters when we say so on the written quote.

Signs Your Jeld-Wen Window Replacement Is Failing

  • The sash drops when you open it. That’s the balance or constant-force coil failing. On Jeld-Wen Builder Series, the coil housing cracks at the plastic clip. On older Sitelines, the wooden routed groove wears, and the block-and-tackle balance can’t hold.
  • You can hear the street or the neighbor’s pool pump when the window is closed. Weatherstripping has compressed beyond its useful life. In Wellington’s wet-dry cycles, original Jeld-Wen pile stripping loses its loft in six to ten years, and the framed gap is no longer sealed.
  • The window locks but there’s visible daylight at the corner. The sash is out of true, usually from a worn balance pulling unevenly or from hinge wear on casements. Left alone, the corner drags the frame and compounds the problem.
  • Condensation or haze between the panes. A failed insulated glass unit, which we see most often on windows facing unshaded west or south walls in Wellington. Once the desiccant strip is saturated, the seal cannot recover.
  • You lift to close and the window binds halfway. Swollen wood on a clad frame, or a vinyl sash warped from heat exposure. If you force it, the hardware yanks out of its seat and you have a bigger repair on your hands.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Wellington, including parts and labor:

  • Balance or constant-force coil replacement: $180 to $340 installed, per window
  • Weatherstripping and seal replacement: $120 to $260 installed
  • Lock / keeper replacement: $95 to $220 installed, depending on the sash and vintage
  • Insulated glass unit replacement: $310 to $750 installed, depending on glass size and coating
  • Full sash replacement (same frame): $380 to $780 installed
  • Full window unit replacement: $450 to $1,150 installed, depending on series and impact rating

The range comes down to which series you own, whether the sash was custom-sized, and whether the glazing bead is reusable. We put the parts and labor as separate line items on every quote, so you see what the glass costs and what the work costs. We register both manufacturer warranty layers in writing before we leave the driveway, and the workmanship side is covered by our Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right. No paperwork fight, no arguing, no fine print that covers neither.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things worth checking yourself before you spend a dollar. Is the sash seated fully in the track? Is a screw backed out of the lock plate? Is the track just gummed up? We’ve saved Wellington homeowners real money by walking them through those checks on the phone.

Then there’s where DIY goes wrong. Jeld-Wen constant-force balances are coiled under tension. If you unscrew the mounting shoe without pinning the coil, the spring can unwind into your hand. Wood Siteline sashes carry real weight, and when a balance fails mid-removal, that sash comes down on fingers. And a glass unit swap is not a “pop it in” job. The sealed unit has to sit on setting blocks at the right depth in the jamb or you’ll be dealing with interior condensation again in two or three years. That’s the kind of mistake we fixed at plenty of Wellington houses before they called us first.

★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."
