The standoff pin spacing on a 42-inch panel is not the same as on a 36-inch panel, and the hole diameter is machined for CGI’s own pin hardware. A universal aftermarket pin will fit some holes and bind on others. Before you buy a replacement panel or bracket, measure the center-to-center spacing between pins, the panel height, and the glass thickness. Then check the small etched label in the corner of the glass. CGI etches their name and the tempered standard (usually ANSI Z97.1) into one corner. If the panel has no etch, it’s likely an aftermarket replacement already installed once before.

For the base shoe and pins, we stock OEM CGI hardware and quality aftermarket equivalents where they match spec. For the glass itself, OEM is the safer route unless the panel predates CGI’s current drilling pattern. The last thing you want is a panel delivered and ready to set that does not line up with the pins already in your concrete.

Signs Your CGI Glass Railing System Is Failing

• Wobble at the top of the glass. This is almost always a loosened standoff pin or a deteriorated neoprene setting block. In Wellington’s salt air and heat cycling, the blocks compress and lose grip over four to seven years. A panel that moves more than a quarter inch when pushed is no longer seated the way it was set.
• Rust weeping from under the base shoe. The aluminum extrusion itself won’t rust, but the stainless fasteners can, especially on pool decks where chlorinated splash water hits them all summer. The rust stain is evidence water is pooling under the channel instead of draining.
• Spider cracks radiating from a pin hole. Tempered glass can crack if a pin is over-torqued, if the hole was not polished properly after tempering, or if the concrete settled and put the pin in a bind. What starts as a quarter-inch crack will, with vibration and heat expansion, run.
• Cloudy or hazy glass that won’t clean. This is not a coating failure. It’s the beginning of laminate separation inside the panel. Wellington’s UV exposure and humidity work on the interlayer. Once the haze appears, the panel has years, not decades, left, and it will only get more noticeable.
• Gap between the glass edge and the base shoe widening on one side. That means the concrete or the shoe itself has shifted. On elevated pool decks and second-story balconies, a widening gap is the first sign the substrate is moving. That’s the one you don’t wait on.
